Forex Education – How Ordinary People Became Millionaire Traders After 2 Weeks
In the late eighties I was reading the excellent book “Market Wizards” by Jack Shwager and was fascinated by a story of how ordinary people were taught to trade in just 14 days and went on to make hundreds of millions of dollars. How was it possible? Let’s take a look at the legendary story of the turtles.
Trading legend Richard Dennis was having a debate with his business partner and was trying to convince him anyone could be taught to trade, providing they had the right mindset and education. His partner disagreed and felt trading was a god given gift – Dennis set out to prove him wrong.
He gathered a diverse group of people together, from all walks of life who only had one thing in common – they had never traded before. They were a very diverse group and ranged from a security guard, to a female auditor to a boy just finishing high school.
He then taught them to trade. After 14 days, they were all given trading accounts and real money and the rest is history. This group went on to make hundreds of millions of dollars and become trading legends.
So what can you learn from the story?
The first point is – trading success is open to anyone and all the basics of trading success can be learned. Sure, you may not become as rich as this group but there is a big difference between something being impossible and something that can be achieved.
I personally found the story an inspiration and it was one of the major reasons I opened a trading account.
The other point from the turtle story is that simple trading systems work.
The system taught was very simple (a basic long term following breakout method) and of course all the students learned it in just 14 days. So complex systems, you can forget – keep it simple!
The reason Simple systems work is, they are more robust in the brutal real world of trading than complex ones, whose numerous elements snap under the pressure of volatility.
Dennis of course knew that having a simple trading system was all well and good – but you have to follow it with discipline and employ strict money management criteria to win and this point was rammed home to his pupils.
The problem for most traders is learning methods is easy, applying them is hard, very, hard and if you think its easy you are not a trader.
The Problem is you need to keep applying a system with discipline, even when its taking loss after loss and the market is making you look stupid. This is tough furthermore, and just as important, you have to hold your winners as open equity continually eats your open profit – again this is hard.
If you have confidence in your system and know why it works long term you can acquire discipline like the turtles were, just be prepared for some mental turmoil.
The story should be required reading for any budding trader and in addition to the information in Market Wizards, check out the book – Way Of The Turtle by Curtis Faith, the most successful turtle of all. He gives you all the info on the experiment, the system and his experience, so you have a great view from the inside.
Like I said earlier, you probably wont make as much money as the turtles – but maybe, just maybe, with the right forex education and a burning desire to succeed you could do very well and remember:

What is happiness? Why is it so elusive ? Is there a secret that happy people are keeping to themselves?
For some happiness may mean winning the lottery, getting the woman/man of your dreams, watching your children grow up , listening to your favourite song, sitting on the beach watching the sun setting over the horizon. Whatever happiness means to you, one thing is certain happiness is an individual thing, as a friend of mine would say it’s all about perception. Some would suggest that all of the above are fleeting moments of happiness and that the true meaning of happiness is about finding lasting contentment and inner peace.
How do we find this contentment? Is it part of self actualisation? Does the quest to better ourselves, our circumstances, our environment, eventually lead to inner happiness? Or does one get lost in the striving and we forget to stop to smell the roses?
It’s possible that part of the journey is always to strive for answers and challenge the norm. Maybe within questioning, the pushing of boundaries, challenging the status quo and finding out about one’s purpose lies a form of contentment.
Although a bit of a curse, this may lead finally to the realisation that that some aren’t meant to just accept life we are meant to be curious and search for answers. There is a possibility in the mere wonderment lies the evolution of one’s soul.
We all have had moments of joy and appreciation for life but for some there’s still the thirst for further knowledge, to look at the bigger picture and ponder whether there’s more to life than this? Is life an illusion , are we here in the matrix and we are going to wake up one day? One thing is certain that life is fleeting and we need to make the most of it , savor every moment. A lot of us put off happiness, I will be happy when I am richer, when I have such and such car, when I am a stone lighter. What we fail to realize is that this isn’t a dress rehearsal that this is it and before we know it we will be old and looking back at what we did with our lives . Did we spend most of it waiting for something to happen? There’s something to be said for living in the now.
Another common error people make is to seek happiness outside ourselves, whether it be through material accumulation , through people in our lives, putting pressure on people who are the closest to us to fulfill us. Inevitably they will fall short; subsequently we feel let down and irrecoverably damage these relationships
People shy away from getting to know themselves, they are afraid of what they might encounter, we give time to people in our lives but we tend to not honor ourselves. To take time out to get to know what makes you tick what makes you happy. To do simple things in life to reconnect with the essence of you. We are all born pure , beautiful beings and we all have a right to give and receive love. Life itself throws challenges along the way but we mustn’t let these lessons taint us and close us of what is our birthright , that is the right to be loving beings. This should foremost start with loving ourselves.
We need to take time to ponder over life’s mysteries and question our existence, maybe then we may get a glimpse of the answer on why we here? Maybe we are here to explore our inner workings, to face our demons and in doing so we find our soul’s purpose and the result of which maybe the inner peace that we are striving for.
Perhaps happiness is elusive and it only comes once you honor what it is you are here to do.

There’s always quite a big slice of the population that’s down. For them, the world revolves through shades of grey into black and back again, and there’s nothing worse than meeting happy people to make them feel really bad. Somehow all the bitterness and resentment comes to the surface. It’s a Scrooge, “Bah, humbug!” day everyday, including Christmas, if the crowd around them is bouncing around being all joyful. Perhaps it’s a fear the happiness might somehow be infectious. They want to drive all these jolly people away unless, in a moment of weakness, they find a little joy creeps up and bites them on whichever part of the anatomy might be exposed. But, for whatever reason, unhappy people resist happiness with a real enthusiasm. Sadly, the increasing body of medical evidence is that this is shortening their lives. Let’s start with the European Heart Journal which, this month, is carrying an article suggesting that people who find peace and joy, if not excitement, in their lives are less likely to suffer from heart disease. This is not to say everyone should walk around in a state of pure contentment all the time. Everyone is entitled to periods when they feel angry, anxious or depressed. It’s a balance between dark and light. It seems the people who feel positive about themselves for longer, live longer. While those who lapse into longer lasting anxiety and depressive states are more likely to suffer heart attacks. This builds on an increasing body of research findings that happy people have stronger immune systems, lower blood pressure and are less likely to contract diabetes. Just as important, people with a positive outlook are more likely to enjoy good sleep, only drink moderate amounts of alcohol and are better able to quit smoking. But, as with all science, there is a need for more research. The immediate article comes out of a ten-year study involving 1,740 participants. This is on the borderline of statistical significance. There should more more studies involving larger numbers of people to tease out all the complex strands that contribute to longer or shorter life expectancy. The most interesting studies involve groups of nuns who live 7 to 10 years longer than average. They live “stress-free” quite unlike the modern secular majority whose lives are blighted by worry and anxiety. As it stands, the medical profession prefers to deal with simple remedies. To keep health insurance costs to a minimum, physicians write out a prescription for xanax while signalling for the next patient to enter. Dealing with abstract notions of happiness is not in the program for time-crunched doctors. This is unfortunate because, although there is no evidence that happiness cures serious illness, it can always make the experience of illness more bearable. This does not deny that if you buy anti-anxiety drugs like xanax online, you will not find anxiety levels reduce. But there is a difference between an absence of anxiety and a positive attitude to life. The evidence is mounting that happiness improves longevity. So, if you want to avoid an early death, start looking for a little joy. You never know. It may just creep up on you and bite you when you are least expecting it. That bite could add years to your life.

The other reason that celebrities have been doing more lately is not so noble. In fact it is simply the other side of the coin. Many celebrities have been acting out for lots of reasons, and it is this action that is causing there to be more stories about them in the celebrity magazines. Some of these actions might be dangerous, extreme, or just plain stupid – but it is the most over the top and ridiculous stories that get the press worked up and that get readership of the celebrity magazines to be on the rise. Many of the celebrities have simply decided that any press is going to be good press, and will do whatever they can do in order to get the publicity that they need.
No matter what the reason, the different ways that celebrities have become more and more popular has led to a general increase in the amount of readership that each celebrity magazine has. This is not tapering off – it is simply leading to more and more popularity for the celebrities, as well as for the magazines themselves. The celebrities benefit from the publicity, and the celebrity magazines benefit from the extra subscriptions and overall sales that certain celebrities can generate.
